Eclipse 2026

Spain’s most scenic places for the 2026 total solar eclipse

From desert badlands to hilltop villages, Spain offers some unforgettable places to watch the moon’s shadow arrive shortly before sunset on Aug. 12, 2026.

Spain’s total solar eclipse on Aug. 12, 2026, will be unusual because totality arrives late in the day, with the eclipsed sun already sinking toward the western horizon. That makes location choice especially important. The best sites will not simply be inside the path of totality — they will also need wide-open views toward the west-northwest.

There are hundreds of striking places to experience the eclipse away from Spain’s busiest tourist areas, including desert landscapes, wetlands, medieval villages, hilltop viewpoints, vineyards and mountain lakes. Locations such as Castildetierra in Navarre (pictured above), Talatí de Dalt in Menorca, Laguna de Gallocanta, Arcos de las Salinas and Lago Enol could offer dramatic foregrounds for one of Europe’s rarest sky events.

For eclipse chasers, the lesson is clear: in Spain in 2026, scenery matters — but the horizon matters more.
