Five campsites in Illinois for eclipse 2017
With Totality lasting the longest in Southern Illinois, it’s time to book a campsite
On August 21, 2017, the USA will be crossed by a Total Solar Eclipse, but it’s those in Southern Illinois that will get the longest look at Totality. The Point of Greatest Duration – 2 minutes 41.6 seconds – is in the Carbondale area.
1 – Southern Illinois University Solar Eclipse Camp

Why not put yourself where NASA Edge will be broadcasting the eclipse globally? There will be camping for $40.00 per person at the Student Recreation Center, which is only a 10-minute walk to the Saluki Stadium, where Eclipse Day events will take place. There are also some rooms available here.
2 – Moonstock 2017
Address: Walker’s Bluff Vineyard, 14250 Meridian Rd, Carterville, IL 62918
This festival in a vineyard is being held from Friday, August 18 – Monday, August 21. At 1:20 pm on August 21 – the moment of Totality – you can experience the light turn to darkness as Ozzy Osbourne kicks off his concert with the song Bark at the Moon.
3 – Du Quoin State Fairgrounds
Address: 655 Executive Dr, Du Quoin, IL 62832
This place in Du Quoin is offering RV parking and camping; over 1,000 hookups with water and electric as well as unlimited primitive camping. There is an Amtrak train that runs from DuQuoin to Carbondale for around $5.
4 – Heron House Family Campground at Kinkaid Lake

Each campsite is 400 sq. ft. and accommodates six. Heron House Family Campground is just a few miles from the point of greatest duration.
5 – Marion Campground and RV Park
Address: 119 North 7th Street, Marion, IL 62959
Marion Campground & RV Park is conveniently located a block east of Interstate 57, exit #53, with easy access to local shopping, restaurants and area attractions.
